Why is it that we have different diverse music to our taste.?

I like clical music, rock and roll, country music (old type), John Philip Sousa marches, Pomp and Cirstance, anything but rap. I love beautiful music wherever it comes from. I grew up in the South, but love different types of music. Theme from A Summer Place is one of my favorites and I'll be Seeing You. I think what we hear in music connects us to something or someone in the past.
