Placenta and alcohol question...?

I am worried about drinking during my pregnancy since I found out at 12 weeks. My dr said something about the yolk sac and placenta although I can't remember exactly so I did some research and found out that the yolk sac provides nutrition until 9-12 weeks and then the placenta takes over and that's when the baby ingests what you do. Is this true?
