Parents: when you were growing up was the community/your family racist?

My husband's extended family is racist. They hate blacks even though all my husband's family is black. As for my family, my family hates everyone who is not white. My husband is black and Middle Eastern which means he has two strikes against him. My mother and step father wouldn't let him in the house last Christmas. They even pick on me for not being Christian.
